Evpatoria photo album. Evpatoria images and views.
Evpatoria (aka Kirkinitida, Gizlyar, Gezlev, Yevpatoriya, Eupatoria, Gozlow, Kozlov) Crimea, Ukraine pictures.
Evpatoria is called the charm of the "wild" West.
Evpatoria is a city more than 2500 years old. It had several different names during it's history: Kirkinitida, Gizlyar(Gezlev, Kozlov), and Evpatoria(Eupatoria, Yevpatoriya).
It is the best place for children's invigoration. The combination of dry steppe air and salt iodic fumes creates a healthy microclimate in this region. The shallow Kalamitsky bay gets warm quickly and provides a long swimming season.
The settlement was founded by the Greeks in the V century BC. Later on it was dependent on Chersonese. When later the settlement suffered from the Scythian intrusion, Mitridate VI Eupatore (Eupator), King of Pontus, had not once rescued the Greek town. In his honor the city was named.
After the seizure of the Crimea by Turks on the spot of the Greek polis the fortress Gezlev had grown, which became the center of slave-trade.
The town was substantially destroyed by the Russian army in 1736 and managed to rise from the ruins only at the end of XIX. The 1st mud-baths and private health-centers started to be built.
There is about 100 thousand inhabitants in Evpatoria nowadays, and the city is a well-known resort area with long sandy beaches, modern restaurants, attraction and aqua parks. The city's unique atmosphere is created by the remains of Greek fortifications, Moslem cloisters of the Crimean Tatar and Turkish culture.
There are some interesting sights to see like the Mosque Dzhuma-Dzhami, Orthodox Church and Karaim's (Karaite's) Church - Kenassi(Kenassy).
